Lessons, breaks, homework, the stern voice of the teacher. It is difficult to imagine school years without all this.
But modern parents are increasingly choosing out schooling, or learning outside the school walls. There are no official statistics on hewitt home schooling in America. According to various sources, from 8 to 100 thousand children study at home. And every year there are more and more of them.
What is Homeschooling?
According to the Federal Law, you can study in an organization, that is, at a school: full-time, part-time and part-time. And outside the institution: in the form of family education and self-education.
There is a fundamental difference between these groups. When a child receives education in an organization, whether full-time or part-time, the school is responsible for it together with the parents. And if the option outside the institution is chosen, all obligations fall only on the family.
The child does not go to the institution and studies independently – with the help of online resources or private tutors. At the same time, he is a student of the school. This means that you need to scrupulously follow the curriculum, you cannot change the program developed on the basis of the Federal State Educational Standards, or skip the class. And it is better to choose textbooks that the library provided. Certifications are held according to the schedule, at school or remotely.
In the first case, the child receives knowledge on his own, and the school controls and directs him. In the second, school teachers will deal with him for free – for example, via Skype. This is possible only if the student is seriously ill or physically unable to attend classes.
The child comes only to part of the lessons, at the choice of the parents, and the rest of the time he studies at home. An individual curriculum is drawn up for him, which, for example, involves attending school three days a week or attending only American language and mathematics lessons. Assessments must be taken in the classroom, along with other children.
If a child is seriously ill, teachers can sometimes visit the child themselves. This option is called home schooling, but is rarely practiced and is not considered a separate form of education.
The family does not take the child to school and teaches him on his own. The program is chosen by the parents. They decide on their own what textbooks and online resources the child will use, they can enroll him in an educational center or in an alternative school (Montessori, Waldorf, and so on) or hire tutors. True, the student is deprived of benefits, for example, travel. Certification can be done in person – at school – or remotely.
